Ljusterö – thriving archipelago community

North and South Ljusterö were originally separate islands but over time merged to form one of the middle archipelago’s largest islands, with genuine Roslagen scenery and lovely bathing coves.

The island quickly became a popular destination for rich city dwellers. Engström, Heidenstam and Liljefors are just a few of the famous Swedish artists and celebrities who were summer guests on the island. Because Ljusterö has a large number of permanent residents the island has excellent facilities and a wide selection of activities.

If you arrive by boat we recommend disembarking at Linanäs jetty, where there is a traditional guesthouse dating from the turn of the century, restaurants, cafes, shops and places to swim.
